when approached to join forces in remixing the classic q-burns abstract message & lisa shaw track >this time< & rabbit in the moons >floori.d.a.<, q-bam + grumptronix decided to make some special mixes, thankfully ignoring all the new fads of the day. if you get anything out of this just let it be that these are not anything like the other mixes you have heard of these songs. try them - you will like them - and they will like you in return.

ok … the sad truth is we have been searching for this dat close to 6 years since rabbit in the moons david christophere and san diego native sotero finished the project. both mixes were done around winter 95 / 96. despite excitement around the label at the time, eventually the tracks fell to the wayside under the age-old excuse of >figuring out what to do with them<. meanwhile, knowing a good thing when he heard it, three made a dat copy and cut some actetates to play out. they made their way around a good portion of the earth via himself, some friends and one west coast dj who boldly vowed to just put it out on his own --- off the slate --- if we didnt get our act together. fortunately he didnt, but neither did we because both david and three misplaced the dat copies and sotero never had one!

pattern select aka milton jackson and show-b have gone well and truly back to the raw on this, their first collaborative work together and debut ep for delusions of grandeur. both producers have been busy on some top quality projects just recently with milton jackson remixing recloose for planet e and show b producing for robert owens on compost. the pair met at a party in munich, promptly fell in love, and soon enough pattern select was born. kicking off tale of the tape sees the pair go deep n dark on this low-slung groove where demonic laughter rides the driving hats and insesant crashes until the filtering arpeggiated synth line joins the fun. tale of the dub gives us a stripped back, dub-infused version which goes a little lighter on the craziness of the first version but without losing any of the deep, hypnotic funk.

remerc is no new face to the scene. he has been active for quite some time in the german techno scene and has recently remixed butchs track >muskatnuss< on the trapez ltd 100 anniversary compilation. he had his breakthrough in 2010 with the track >tiny calf< which ended up on the cocoon compilation >party animals< mixed by marco carola and nick curly. remerc opens his release with >ruhewolf<, a restless funkedelic rocker with a beat that juggles elements in a loose and totally cool way. the track is spiced up with elements of surreal bliss and could go on forever were there not the limitations of the vinyl. on the flipside we find an hanne & lore remix that tightens and fattens up the beat and pimps up the basslines. adding some twisted sounds ... making it a clubber par excellence. >just a bards tale< is a unique remerc track and stands out from all the productions he has done so far. here new wave coloured edgy vocals meet a post-detroit string-chord arrangement. sounds adventurous and daring? well it is to some degree... but recall >no more words< by carl craig from 1991 but executed in a dead modern way.

>i can see< by the oliverwho factory is the second release of german label couldnt care more (following stareaways - learn how to love me) and its just marvellous: the duo from detroit, who by the way runs the stunning label madd chaise inc. and recently released >galactic transit< on rush hour and >night lights< on planet e, delivers finest detroit tech deep house with a twist, that will make you wave your arms and scream on the dancefloor. while the basic track is voluminously wafting and rawly pushing forward vocalist shone tops it with her power- and soulful singing. both tracks are mastered straight to the point by a.o.s.. classic.

subtlety is not the first word used in connection with most djs, but there is much more the métier of germany s gregor tresher than simply playing records, as lights from the inside attest: just as a painting or photograph appears to move if one stares at it long enough, with close listening the stratified grooves and melodies assembled on gregor s stunning third full-lenght artist album reveal an organic universe of shifting sound. meticulous attention to the latter element—melody—was of utmost concern to the frankfurt resident. not obvious, eight-bar earworms that would quickly exhaust their welcome, but musical lines that could repeat, develop and intertwine in different patterns. in this regard, lights from the inside harks back to gregor tresher s earlier releases, but as always his sound aesthetic continues to evolve in new directions.

with the sun out and festival season just around the corner, the 2 bears return with their biggest crowd pleasers yet on the bear hug ep out on southern fried. equipped for both barmy afternoons in blissed-out fields and after hours naughtiness in the darkest dance tents, the 2 bears set the seal on their trademark brand of house revisionism. opening up with take a look around, 2 bears take us from techy intro to full on house inclusivity inside seven minutes, with rafs understated vocals joined by star-to-be alice gold. then there is the bashy jump-up instrumental in my brain is like a computer, to set us up for an mc’d walk through of the 2 bears dancefloor doctrine, bear hug. as for the ep closer banger, the title speaks for itself – a tune that cuts deeper and harder than any 2 bears track so far

a1 volta cab & the legendary 1979 orchestra -­ the ideal now: this track planted the idea for a collaborative release. a superb house track for the summer months, what a bomb! the track has an amazing groove, melodic keys and heavy percussion. feel good stuff!.

their debut three tracker ep has a theme running through it.. yup, its all about sides. first up is a riff you may well know from trevor horn and fgth. they take the tribe groove, slow it down and strip the groove back. using just the riff from the famous 80s monster hit they cunningly carve out >two sides< as their sultry opener. next up >by my side< enlists the help of the handily associated brass section. shuffling grooves, stabby horns and muted picked guitar are the order of the day. its a perfect one for those early dj-set appetizing sections. to round things off we tone it down even further with the beautiful >by my side<. subtle tones, lazy keys and a smouldering groove. when the keys kick in during the last minute its a glorius and sublime treat. stay tuned for more sides.
